Holly Willoughby pays tribute to This Morning guest Matty Lock who has died aged 19

Holly Willoughby has led tributes to This Morning guest and Labour councillor Matty Lock who has died aged 19.

“So shocked and saddened to hear the news today,” the This Morning presenter wrote on Instagram.

“Matty was a wonderful person with a true passion for what he did… my love goes out to his friends and family at what must be a very difficult time.”

Mr Lock made a number of appearances on the programme as a vacuum cleaner reviewer.

He was also a rising star in the Labour Party and was recently elected a councillor for his hometown Maghull in Merseyside. He was also a parish councillor in Lydiate.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, This Morning described him as a “delightful young man” and “a joy to work with”.

It added that his passion for vacuum cleaners, which began in childhood, was “infectious.”

Celebs Rylan Clark and Alison Hammond were among hundreds of people to reply.

“God that’s really sad. Sending love,” said former This Morning host Rylan Clark.

“What sad news to wake up to, what a lovely man!! Condolences to his family and friends,” added Alison Hammond.

‘He had his whole life ahead of him’

The Labour Party also joined tributes in a post retweeted by deputy party leader Angela Rayner.

“He had his whole life ahead of him, with huge potential who I know was admired and loved across our party,” wrote the Labour North West account.

Labour MP for Sefton Central, Bill Esterson, added: “Many people will be devastated by the news that @CllrMLock passed away yesterday.

“Matty was a lovely young man who had achieved so much and had so many plans for the future.

“I’m thinking about him, his boundless enthusiasm and about his mum and dad. Rest in Peace, Matty.”
